“No education is complete without a depth experience in the arts and classics.”
– Oliver DeMille, Creator of Thomas Jefferson Education
Our elementary art program aligns with Core Knowledge as an essential part of the knowledge that all children should learn in the early grades. We provide opportunities to create and experiment with many different materials, tools and processes. The Elements and Principles of art serve as the foundation for every creative experience. Scholars are exposed to a wide range of classic works of art as well as art history and periods of art , the lives of the artists and the terminology and vocabulary of the arts. We learn to talk about art and to communicate our ideas, feelings and judgment's to others. A good understanding of the arts grows out of at least three modes of knowledge - creative (making art), historical and analytical and all three modes are embraced here at John Adams Academy with special emphasis placed on creativity and active participation. The program is interdisciplinary and continually connects to the scholar's other academic subjects such as literacy, math, science and history.
