Fifth graders concluded their study of the Renaissance in art class by learning about Lorenzo Ghiberti's "Doors of Paradise" for the Duomo Cathedral in Florence, Italy. They used their knowledge of the Renaissance to inspire their own personal door panels with the theme of their choice..
Fourth graders studied gothic architecture of the medieval period. Scholars created their own rose windows and built a gothic-style cathedral around them. First graders learned about sponge painting techniques and the use of tempera paint. We studied the poinsettia flower and recreated a beautiful poinsettia display for the season! Kindergarteners learned about Northwest Americam Indian totem poles and created their own double sided totems. Scholars learned about the meanings of different animal totems and the different colors used in totem poles. They drew an owl and a bear and chose their favorite to finish with paint. Fourth graders studied famous American portrait artists Gilbert Stuart & J.S.Copley along with other famous American works of art & architecture. Scholars used a grid system to make a contour line drawing of the famous American portrait of their choice. Then they took their inspiration from Jasper Johns' work "After Hans Holbein" and let their color imaginations run wild. |
